The SEO checker chrome extension that runs entirely in your browser
Indexwise lives in Chrome's side panel. Click the owl on any page and it audits what's actually there, right now, with no server in between.
Why "chrome extension" instead of "online tool"
Most SEO checkers are a form: paste a URL, wait for their server to fetch it, read a report. That works for a public page, but it misses a lot in practice:
- JavaScript-rendered content. If your title, headings or structured data are injected by client-side JS, a server-side fetch often sees the page before that runs. Indexwise reads the page your browser already rendered.
- Staging and password-protected pages. An online checker can't log in or get past a firewall. The extension audits whatever page is open in your tab, staging included.
- Draft URLs you'd rather not paste into a form. Nothing about the page you're auditing is sent anywhere. The audit runs locally; only an anonymous error report leaves your browser, and only if Indexwise itself breaks.
What happens when you click the icon
- Add Indexwise to Chrome from the Web Store and pin it to your toolbar.
- Open any page and click the owl. The side panel opens next to the page with a score and a list of issues.
- Copy the fixes. Each issue comes with the exact code or setting to change, adapted to WordPress (Yoast, Rank Math), Shopify, Wix, Webflow, Squarespace or Next.js where relevant.
What it checks
One pass covers the page audit (titles, meta descriptions, canonicals, headings, indexability, hreflang), structured data, images and alt text, readability, Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, INP) as you browse, and whether AI crawlers and search bots can read the page. See the full feature list or the SEO audit extension guide for how the full-site and bulk checks work.
Questions
Is there a free SEO checker chrome extension?
Yes. Indexwise is free to add from the Chrome Web Store. Everything on this page is free; only bulk audit (100 pages) and the watch list (3 pages) have limits.
Does a chrome extension see my page differently than an online SEO checker?
Yes. An online checker fetches your URL from its own server, so it can miss content that only appears after JavaScript runs, and it can't reach staging sites behind a login or firewall. A chrome extension reads the page as your browser actually rendered it, on any page you can open.
Which browsers does Indexwise support?
Chrome 114 or newer. Other Chromium-based browsers that support the side panel API, such as Edge, may also work.
